How and Why I Decided to start a Let’s Play series on YouTube.

“Let’s Play: Kerbal Space Program – Episode 1: Into The Kerbalverse” – created by The Anarchist for the FourTwoZero Creations Gaming Blog.

Have you ever gotten a new video game, or even an older game that you’ve never gotten the chance to play for yourself?

Do you remember how exciting that initial experience was the first time you loaded into the main menu or home screen of that game, and how overwhelmed with joy you felt when starting in for the first time?

This is exactly how I felt when I was loading up Kerbal Space Program (KSP) for the first time – just a few weeks ago!

What is Kerbal Space Program (KSP)?

Kerbal Space Program is a Space Exploration and Travel Simulation Video Game that used to be exclusive to PC – via direct download through Squad (which was since bought out by Take Two Interactive), or through Steam – but has now broadened it’s horizons by releasing Xbox and PlayStation versions as well!

Kerbal Space Program was released in 2011 for beta testing, with an official release date in 2015. It has since release 2 DLC packs and numerous updates, and was boughten out by Take Two Interactive, before launching Kerbal Space Program 2 at the beginning of 2023.

Your main objective? Unlock all of the mysteries that the Kerbalverse has to offer, from taking crew reports during flights to further your scientific research, to reaching and exploring distant planets, and everything in between, Kerbal Space Program is sure to keep you entertained for a while to come.

The Career Mode of KSP is also mostly procedurally generated, which means that each of your playthroughs will be unique! (Aside from the more obvious aspects of the game, like the planetary bodies and unlockables.)

I’ll check KSP2 out eventually, but I want to complete at least one playthrough of the original before I attempt the sequel!

Starting My Journey

Since I recently got a new (to me) gaming computer – it’s actually pretty old, a 2014 model, running Windows 10 – but it was set up with an MSI motherboard and a few other goodies for gaming. (I’ll have to do some research because honestly, I’m not well versed in computer builds, so I really don’t even know what this computer is equipped with!)

Either way, I downloaded OBS (for recording), DaVinci Resolve (for editing), and GIMP (for thumbnail design and creation) to my computer, which are all free to use, although DaVinci Resolve does have a pay to use version as well (Resolve Studio).

Since I was super excited to test out my new setup, I decided the best way to do that was to record my very first playthrough of Kerbal Space Program, and share it with everyone on YouTube!

So that’s what I did!

Recording My First Video

Embedded directly above is the First Episode, or “Pilot” if you will (a knee-slapper if I ever heard one), of my Very First Playthrough of Kerbal Space Program – which I like to call, “Into the Kerbalverse!”

The gameplay was recorded on my computer via OBS, which I initially attempted to record voiceover with as well, but it sounded like garbage and I didn’t think I could fix it since this was my first attempt at editing a video.

So I re-recorded my voice over on my phone, edited it into my gameplay session, and attempted to mix and master the sound myself, so I apologize if the sound isn’t the greatest, but I will only get better with time!

Join me on my journey into the Kerbalverse by watching the first episode of my let’s play series as I launch myself straight into the Career Mode of Kerbal Space Program – without any prior training or experience whatsoever – and watch the chaos and excitement unfold before your very eyes!

In This Episode…

In this premier episode of my Let’s Play Kerbal Space Program series, you’ll get to watch a complete beginner launch himself straight into the Career Mode of KSP, and struggle to grasp the concept of building a beginner rocket inside the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) before launching a rocket sideways into an immediate fiery impact and explosion! What an exciting way to start out our new Space Program!

After finally figuring out how to successfully launch a rocket after designing it in the VAB, our beginner rocket was headed towards the stars! Or, should I say, it was at least headed to a previously unreached elevation, which was in itself a scientific feat for Kerbal-kind!

After one successful launch and recovery, I earned enough Science Points to unlock a new research tier, and I quickly headed back to the VAB to check out our new Rocket Parts!

Our first attempt at building a new rocket wasn’t the greatest, and the launch was a bust as well. So we quickly scrapped that design and went for a different one, in an attempt to reach a higher altitude, and successfully recover our craft.

After accepting a mission to take a crew report in flight, and continued to crash more rockets into the surface of Kerbin, I felt like it was time to end the session, because we were at a stand still in our progression!

Upon returning back to the main menu, I noticed the training exercise submenu, and knew immediately where I needed to go next, but I think we’ll save that for the next episode!

Be apart of the birth of a new Community!

Not only do you get to witness my first playthrough of Kerbal Space Program, but you will also witness the evolution of a new YouTube channel, and be among the first members of the FourTwoZero Community!

Want to play Kerbal Space Program for yourself? You can purchase it as a direct download from the website, through Steam, or on Xbox or PlayStation!
